I was awarded Developing Your Creative Practice funding from Arts Council England to undertake this personal research and development project starting in January 2023 and completing in January 2024.
Intuitive Threads - an exploration of the nature and role of intuition in the creative process through SAORI and intuitive approaches to weaving.
I identify my natural creative process as largely intuitive. Ideas in art therapy focused my work on process rather than on a pre-planned result. Traditional weaving methods require technical knowledge and planning. I wanted to explore the SAORI ethos of there are no mistakes, self-expression and human over machine. This embodies an intuitive method and approach ideal for me to explore in relation to my creative process. Exploring ideas around creativity and intuition through a craft process allows the intangible to become tangible and puts theory into practice.
I wanted to develop a new freedom of approach and explore what I can take from SAORI into my wider practice and more traditional weaving methods. I want to clarify my ideas on intuition in the creative process.
To find out more about the project, the workshops I attended, the research I did on SAORI and Creative Intuition and the work I produced as well as thoughts on my creative process., please take a look at my BLOG HERE.
